Bactrim is a combination antibiotic containing sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, used to treat a variety of bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, bronchitis, and certain types of pneumonia. It works by inhibiting the production of folic acid in bacteria, which is essential for their growth and reproduction. Bactrim is also sometimes prescribed for skin infections and acne when other treatments are ineffective.
